Frequently Asked Questions:

Back stitch embroidery is used for patches. Use a simple backstitch, which would safely attach the patch and make a neat, unbroken line. Keep your stitches around ½ inch from the edge of the patch. This placement would help in keeping the patch flat against the material. Starting at the back side of the material, place the needle through both the patch and the material. Pull the thread through unless the knot reaches the back side of the material. About ¼ inch move the needle along the patch’s perimeter. Place the needle down into the patch and the material, pushing it all the way through. Pull the thread taut.

We would suggest Brother SE1900. Brother SE1900 is an outstanding machine that offers a lot of elite features for an extremely reasonable cost. For starters, it offers a 5 x 7 embroidery area, which is a nice size embroidery machine for patch making. Though, it is as well a double-purpose embroidery and sewing machine. So, if you would like to do both sewings and embroidering but don’t have the funds for two individual machines, Brother SE1900 would be a great choice for you as it will let you do many different projects.

You can apply embroidery patches in four different ways. Let’s discuss them: 1. SEWING: You would need a needle and some black thread. Calculate the patch’s outside brim and double the amount. That is how much thread you would require. Then begin sewing. It is very easy. Just keep the thread within the black part of the embroidered patch and it won’t be visible at all. Ensure you tie off the end and the start so the patch does not fall. This method works best on garments, as if you want to look on the inside it would look quite bizarre. Because of this, we do not recommend using this on bags. 2. IRONING: Place the patch on the spot where you want it to be and place parchment paper on it. Then begin warming up your iron and make gradual circular motions on the patch. Continue doing this for a minute, and after the time is up you have to check if the glue has set and the patch would remain in its’ place. You could do this by smoothly trying to live the edges. If they actually come up then you have to start again. 3. GLUING: Purchase some material glue from a craft store. Place a little amount of glue on the patch back and apply it to the material. For the finest outcome leave it for an hour, so that the glue can properly set. Once the time is up, you have to test the edges by lifting them. If they come up, it means you didn’t apply enough glue on the patch and you have to do the process again. 4. APPLIQUE EMBROIDERY SEWING: This is the most pricey method because you would need an embroidery sewing machine for it. This method is best if you plan on applying your patch to sports garments. It could last all the sweating and stretching, so you don’t have to worry about it falling off even if you place it through a lot.

The cost of patches depends on several factors: 1. The amount of detailing in a design 2. The number of colors required 3. The type of embroidery 4. The cost of buying merchandise from the embroidery service if you do not supply it yourself 5. The quality of products embroidered

There are different methods you can use to make your own patches at home. Some of them are as follows: 1. INKJET PICTURES: Snap an image or scan your artwork. Resize the artwork if require to your desired patch size. With the help of the inkjet transfer sheets in your at-home printer, print your artwork into the inkjet transfer sheets as directed. Then, iron the artwork directly onto your material, and allow it to rest for two minutes. Peel the paper backing and cut the patch to size. 2. HAND EMBROIDERY: Place the artwork directly under a scrap piece of material, so that you could see the artwork through the material. Tape the artwork around the edges to aid secure the material. Then, lift up the material to a windowpane to allow light to filter through and trace the image to transfer the art to your material. Safely place the material in the embroidery hoop and tighten. With the help of three strands of embroidery floss and an embroidery needle, make embroidery stitches around your design unless it is covered. 3. FAUX MACHINE EMBROIDERY (ZIGZAG STITCH). Select your artwork. If needed, use the window trace technique from the previous embroidery method steps. Select the zigzag stitch on your sewing machine and set the stitch length to zero and the stitch width to two. This would give you a buttonhole kind of zigzag stitch, for a good thick line. Then, sew around your traced lines, pivoting the needle as you sew to accomplish your final image.
